Board retreat facilitation and goal-setting for a nature-based children’s education center. Focused on mission alignment and strategic planning.
We partnered with a nature-based education nonprofit serving families and young learners in North Central Washington to design and facilitate a full-day board and staff retreat focused on reflection, alignment, and forward planning. The retreat was designed to ground participants in the mission, surface shared learning from the past few years, and clarify priorities for the years ahead.
Our work focused on thoughtful retreat design and facilitation that balanced structure with authentic connection. The agenda included mission-centered contemplation, small-group dialogue, joint board–staff conversations, and hands-on fundraising practice, alongside space for celebration and well-being. We created opportunities for staff and board members to hear from one another directly, reflect on what was working and where progress had stalled, and begin grouping a wide range of ideas into a smaller set of strategic priorities.
By the end of the retreat, the organization had a clearer picture of its most important priorities for the next 1–5 years. Participants left with greater shared understanding and a stronger sense of collective purpose. This project showcases Sage Step Consulting’s experience helping mission-driven organizations move through strategic planning processes while staying grounded in their values.
